Power
There are many kinds of forklifts which are operated by propane gas. Forklifts that utilize propane are very simple to refill. The gas is stored in a pressurized tank on the rear of the truck. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and then the vapor combines with air. The throttle of the forklift is used to be able to control the flow of vapor. A spark plug fires up the air and vapor mixture producing pressure which makes the pistons move. The pistons power the hydraulic pump and turn the wheels.
Forklifts that utilize propane are suggested for use inside warehouses and other buildings because they are clean burning with low emissions.
Hydraulics
The hydraulic system of the forklift is what allows it to raise and move really heavy objects from place to place. A pump, tubes and cylinders make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid through the tubing and into the cylinders. The build up of pressure pushes a piston, that raises the forks. When the forks are lowered by the operator, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back into the pump.
Steering
Where maneuverability is required, propane forklifts are the most suitable. Unlike a car, a forklift uses its rear wheels to pivot, which allows the forklift to quickly pivot on a tight radius.

Counterbalance lift trucks are essentially forklifts which are engineered with counterweight at the rear of the equipment. The counterweight works to balance the weight which the forks are carrying at the front of the cargo. This design is engineered to stabilize traditional lift trucks. As far as electric counterbalance lift trucks are concerned, the battery itself forms the counterweight.
